Glasgow arrival → check in → Dishoom → optional Cathedral / Necropolis

Soft landing day after London: check in first, drop bags, reset, keep pre-dinner wandering very close, then add Glasgow Cathedral + Necropolis after dinner only if everyone still has energy.

Useful for this day
  • Maribel: arrives Glasgow 12:50pm on EI3226.
  • Mom & Dad: Avanti train departs 9:30am, arrives 2:02pm.
  • Now–3:15pm: get to Native Glasgow, check in / drop bags / reset.
  • Hotel/base: Native Glasgow, 14 St Vincent Place. Check-in 3pm; checkout 12pm.
  • If time after check-in: skip George Square construction. Do a short easy loop through Royal Exchange Square, Buchanan Street, City Chambers exterior if accessible from the edges, and Merchant City streets, then coffee / pint / sit-down near the hotel.
  • 4:45–5:25pm: back to the room, freshen up.
  • 5:35pm: walk to Dishoom Glasgow.
  • 5:45pm dinner: Dishoom Glasgow — about a 3-minute walk from the hotel.
  • After dinner, optional: if everyone has energy, taxi/Uber to Glasgow Cathedral + Necropolis for a light, scenic wander; sunset is late, so it should still be bright. Bag it if anyone is tired.
  • Fallback: if check-in drags or everyone is tired, just do Royal Exchange Square / Buchanan Street + coffee before dinner, then an easy walk back to the hotel after dinner.

Glasgow → Glencoe / Glen Nevis base

Pick up the rental car, leave Glasgow, and treat the drive north as the first Highland day rather than just a transfer.

Useful for this day
  • Checkout: 11am.
  • Rental car: Sixt booking confirmed; pickup at Glasgow Central Station, 8am or later.
  • Car class: Peugeot 2008, Skoda Kamiq, VW T-Roc, or similar.
  • Driver/contact: Gordon is the driver; Mom gets the emails / WhatsApp messages.
  • Drive: Glasgow to the Fort William / Glen Nevis base is about 3 hours with normal routing and a modest stop; Glasgow to Glencoe alone is closer to 2 hours before stops.
  • Best linger stop: Luss / Loch Lomond — pretty village, loch shore, coffee/snack/bathrooms; linger 45–60 minutes.
  • Late lunch options: if you skip lunch in Luss, aim for Tyndrum / Crianlarich for the practical stop, or hold out for Glencoe if everyone is fine waiting.
  • Optional quick stops: Falls of Falloch if parking is easy, then scenic pullouts through Rannoch Moor / Glencoe. Prioritize Three Sisters Viewpoint as the main Glencoe photo stop if parking/weather cooperate.
  • Skip unless you want a much longer day: Inveraray / bigger western detours.
  • Sleep: Airbnb at 52 Carn Dearg Road — close to Glen Nevis and Glencoe.
  • Early dinner options: The Clachaig Inn or The Gathering; choose this if lunch slips late or you want to eat before settling in at Glen Nevis.
  • 9:00pm: World Cup quarterfinal — Morocco vs France.

Newtonmore family-history day

Make this a simple Newtonmore morning: Highland Folk Museum when it opens, then Clan Macpherson Museum at noon.

Useful for this day
  • Sleep: Newtonmore, same place — The Braeriach.
  • 10:00am: Highland Folk Museum opens; start here if everyone is ready. Official hours show 10:00–17:00 daily.
  • Noon: Clan Macpherson Museum. Official Sunday hours are 12:00–17:00, so this is the fixed anchor.
  • After noon: lunch / coffee in Newtonmore or Kingussie, then keep the afternoon flexible for a short local walk, Ruthven Barracks if not done on the transfer day, or a low-key rest.

Newtonmore → Edinburgh

Drive to Edinburgh, return the car, settle into New Town, and make dinner the city re-entry anchor.

Useful for this day
  • Checkout: 10am.
  • Travel: Newtonmore to Edinburgh, about 2 hours 20 minutes without stops.
  • Optional before returning the car: Swanston Farm for Highland cows near Edinburgh. It is easier by car on the way in; official farm hours are 9:30am–4pm daily, and the cow-viewing route is a short 15–20 minute stop. Keep 10m away and do not feed/touch the cows.
  • If not by car: save Swanston for later by public transit — Lothian buses stop on Oxgangs Road, then it is about a 900m uphill walk to the farm.
  • Rental car return: Edinburgh City Centre / Waverley by 6pm.
  • Sleep: Edinburgh Airbnb at 12/7 Hart Street — Beautiful Edinburgh New Town Two-Bedroom Apartment.
  • 5:30pm dinner: The Scran and Scallie — traditional Scottish food.

Flexible Edinburgh day

Leave this as the flexible city day: Old Town, New Town, castle, hills, or coffee depending on energy.

Useful for this day
  • Sleep: Edinburgh, same apartment at 12/7 Hart Street.
  • 9:00am brunch: Greenwoods.
  • 5:00pm dinner: Lucky Yu — Asian small plates / happy-hour deal, about a 2-minute walk from the Airbnb.
  • Grace rec activity options: prioritize Calton Hill over Arthur’s Seat if you want easier views; Grace says Calton Hill is gorgeous and less of a climb, with a nice bar at the top. Other Grace ideas: Stockbridge, Portobello Beach, The Meadows, Old College / Old Medical School / McEwan Hall, Swanston Farm highland cows by bus + uphill walk if you did not stop by car, Victoria Street / Grassmarket, or Edinburgh Castle as the classic-but-not-essential option.
  • 8:00pm: World Cup semifinal.

Best vista vote

Everyone picks one view of the day. Skye and Glencoe probably make this competitive.

Weather-flex prize

Reward the best rainy-day pivot: café, short walk, museum, pub, or scenic drive.

Family-history artifact

Capture one photo, story, or place name from Newtonmore to remember why this stop mattered.
